Hi, I'm Luke Holland.
I'm a senior interaction designer based in Edinburgh.
I design digital services that are clear, accessible, and shaped around real needs, whether that means rethinking a complex journey, shaping a design system, or prototyping something quickly to learn what works.
Over the past five years I've worked in government, media, and the third sector. Along the way, I've designed AI-powered tools, led accessibility programmes across multiple service areas, contributed to cross-org design systems, and developed trauma-informed research methods for working with people in vulnerable situations.
How I work
I work best in teams where everyone brings something different to the table, and where we're all trying to build something that genuinely helps people. Here's how I tend to approach things:
- I like to share rough ideas and get feedback quickly rather than working on designs alone. Some of the best solutions come from conversations around messy sketches.
- I pay attention to what users tell us, what the data shows, and what we observe - but I know none of these things tell the complete story on their own.
- I focus on the whole experience people have, not just individual screens. Often the most important moments happen between the obvious steps.
- I care about the words as much as the visual design. The language we use shapes how people feel about what we're asking them to do.
- I think about who might struggle to use something from the very beginning, rather than trying to fix accessibility problems later.
- When I'm designing for people going through difficult situations, I try to be especially thoughtful about how the service feels to use.

Outside of work
Outside of work, you'll usually find me out on my bike, digging through records, or catching live music. My taste is eclectic from indie to hip-hop to electronic, I enjoy discovering new sounds wherever I can find them.
Music plays a part in how I work too. It helps me think through complex problems and find creative solutions. Here's what I'm currently listening to:
